Chennai Port Remains Shut After Being Hit by Cyclone
Posted on Dec 13
Chennai Port authorities are working towards resuming operations after the port was hit by Cyclone Vardah on Monday. It is estimated that it will take several days to resume normal cargo operations at India’s busiest east coast container port.Although no damage was caused to ships as none were berthed at the time the cyclone hit, the possible extent of damage to cargo handling facilities and other infrastructure is still unknown. It is being reported that road traffic has mostly been restored in the port city while power and telecommunication systems are still not operating.Flight operations at Chennai airport resumed this morning after being suspended Monday because of the cyclone threat.Terminal operations in the port are expected to resume once the weather conditions improve.
