Strike in Chittagong Container Port
Posted on Oct 29
The Port of Chittagong in Bangladesh got hit by a strike of transport workers and employers on Sunday, protesting new safety legislation.
At this point the strike is limited to 48 hours, but it already placed hundreds of containers in the port on hold, and it is reported that on Sunday no trucks entered or exited the port complex that usually receives about 3,500 trucks daily with export cargo, mainly apparels, and up to 1,400 trucks exiting the complex with imported goods, mainly raw materials for manufacturing units producing articles for export.
Additional cargo coming from outside depots is also affected by the strike.
We are monitoring the situation and will advise any delays to your cargo as soon as possible.
