Ports of LALB Further Postpone Excessive Container Dwell Fees

Consideration of the “Container Dwell Fee” at the Port of Los Angeles and the Port of Long Beach will again be delayed, this time until April 15, 2022, port officials announced today.

The Port of Los Angeles and Port of Long Beach will delay consideration of the “Container Dwell Fee” for another week, this time until April 8, 2022.
The two San Pedro Bay ports have seen a combined decline of 56% in aging cargo on the docks since the program was announced on October 25, 2021.

The combined decline in aging cargo in the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach has reached 47%, another increase from the previously reported numbers, so the ports decided to further postpone the implementation of their Excessive Container Dwell Fee until 12/20/21.
The ports will continue to monitor the progress in removing the lonest-dwelling containers from the port terminals and decide on the future of the fee based on that.
It should be noted that the removal of this “old” cargo does not make the ports emptier as new cargo arrives every day, it helps to not congest the ports even more as they already are.
Long-term relief will only come when less cargo arrives in the ports as is removed, when that point arrives is mainly driven by the demand for goods in the US and the need to restock inventories.12/07/2021
The Excessive Container Dwell Fees in the Ports of Los Angeles and Long beach have been further postponed to 12/13/2021, at which point the Port Directors will review the additional progress made by then.

The Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach further postponed the assessment of their Excessive Container Dwell Fees until 12/06/21. citing a combined 37% decrease in aging cargo on their docks as the reason for the decision.
The management of both ports will reassess the implementation of the fees based on the progress achieved in the coming week.

After seeing a reduction of aging cargo on their docks of 33% the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach announced that the “Excessive Container Dwell Fees” that were due to go into effect today have been further postponed to 11/29/21.
The ports are very satisfied with the process achieved so far and will reassess the fee implementation after another week of monitoring data has been accumulated and reviewed.

The ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach today announced that the application of the “excessive Container Dwell Fees will be delayed until November 22, 2021.
The fees, implemented to entice cargo owners to remove containers from the ports faster, had been announced October 25, since then a combined 26% reduction in containers sitting in the ports for extended periods of time has been achieved.
Due to this success the ports want to give cargo owners and carriers more time to remove even more containers until the highly controversial charges will be assessed.
