You’ve Hired New Staff – Now You Have to Train Them!
Article by: Rick Walker, Vice President – TradeInsights
We see it everywhere we go now. Signs on windows, billboards, advertisements on the radio, and even commercials on television. Now Hiring! That seems to be the phrase of the day (or maybe for the last two years!). Great companies that two years ago saw job seekers lining up to apply for openings find themselves now anxiously searching for additional staff. Perhaps even your favorite restaurant closes an extra day each week because of staff shortages.
In spite of the country’s recent economic growth, many workers have exited the workplace for good, and others have sought other opportunities for a myriad of reasons.
Importers, exporters, and others along the supply chain are not exempt from this trend.
As hard as it has been, if you’ve been fortunate enough to find and hire good new employees, now comes the hard part. You have to train them! That’s easier said than done, and in many cases, companies are already working at capacity and proper training takes time. Let’s face it – training is tough, and it can take valuable time away from existing staff.
This is where TradeInsights can help. We offer group or individual training in areas such as classification, valuation, the import process, Incoterms, import and export compliance, USMCA, and others. We offer general training classes such as our “Basics of Importing” training, but can also design training specific to your individual needs.
