Preliminary Trade Deal With Mexico Announced
Posted on Aug 27
The Trump administration announced that a new trade accord has been reached with Mexico, with the intended result being the possible termination of NAFTA, with a potential inclusion of Canada at a later date, or alternatively two separate agreements with each of the other countries.
Robert Lighthizer, the U.S. Trade Representative, projects that he would notify Congress of a completed agreement by Friday, which seems to indicate that the administration hopes to secure an agreement with Canada by the end of the week.
The Economy Secretary of Mexico, Ildefonso Guajardo, stated that talks with Canada must be finalized before final details of the agreement can be disclosed.
We will monitor the developments and advise further details as soon as they become available.
