USMX and ILA Approve New Labor Contract For USEC/USGC Ports
Posted on Sep 10
Five days after the members of the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) voted to approve the new Master Contract for the ports on the US East and Gulf Coasts the members of the United States Maritime Alliance Ltd. (USMX) voted on Monday to ratify the new six‐year year agreement.
USMX chairman and chief executive officer David F. Adam called the agreement “a fair and equitable contract benefiting not only our members, the BCOs and supply chain partners, but also for the ILA and their families,”, stressing that it will “ensure continued labor peace in our ports” for the contract period from October 1, 2018 through September 30, 2024.

The members of the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) approved a new master labor contract with the United States Maritime Alliance (USMX) last week, extending the current contract for ports on the US East and Gulf Coasts for 6 years to September 30, 2024.
The union states that the new contract will bring “generous pay increases, landmark protections against job-killing fully automated ports and labor peace and stability through September 30, 2024”.
The current labor contract was set to expire at the end of September, and the approval of a new contract ahead of the expiration of the old one will assure that port operations will not be interrupted by strikes or other work slowdowns.
In other labor news GCT Canada, which operates two container terminals in Vancouver, reached a tentative 5 year agreement with the local International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU), that would avert a strike the union had planned to start in the next few days.
