Bangladesk (Chittagong) – Import Of Cyclone Bulbul

Posted on Nov 11

Cyclone Bulbul closed down Bangladesh’s main port of Chittagong for 36 hours over the weekend, resulting in the delay of over 100 vessels that were waiting to berth during that time period.

Port officials expect that it will take at least one week to clear the backlog of about 12,000 TEU.

It is expected that many containers which could not sail from Chittagong port during the two days the port operation was shut down will miss vessels in transshipment ports in Singapore and Colombo, which will delay them for up to a week until they can be loaded onto another vessel.

Chittagong handles 93 percent of Bangladesh’s ocean freight, about 3 million TEU.
