A tentative agreement has been reached in the ILWU Canada West Coast port strike. The International Longshore and Warehouse Union Canada announced the tentative deal on Thursday at 10:20 a.m. but did not provide any further details.
The end of the strike comes less than two days after Canada’s Minister of Labour ordered the federal mediator overseeing negotiations between the union and the British Columbia Maritime Employers Association to provide recommendations for a settlement. An official at BCMEA confirmed the deal and the end of the strike, which began July 1.
The tentative agreement is subject to ratification by both parties and details of the agreement have not been released.
The union and the British Columbia Maritime Employers Association had until 10:30 a.m. Thursday to accept the terms of a settlement recommended by a federal mediator that would end the 13-day-old industrial action.
Terms of a settlement, recommended by the mediator, had been given to the two sides on Wednesday.
