The strike by truck drivers and warehouse workers at the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach ended after 5 days. After a rally at Los Angeles City Hall on Friday striking workers delivered nearly 10,000 petition signatures calling on the mayors of Los Angeles and Long Beach to help end the “practice of drayage truckers being classified as non-employees by the companies that they work for”.The strike apparently did not have a major impact on port operations.

Port Drivers and Warehouse Workers in LALB Ports to Strike June 19-23June 19th, 2017Up to 100 drayage trucker drivers and warehouse workers in the LALB ports are set to strike from today until Friday to protest what they call illegal exploitation by “greedy corporations” that fail to recognize them as employees but instead treat them as independent owner-operators or contractors.Drivers working for a third-part logistics provider plan to picket the company’s locations in Los Angeles, Long Beach and San Diego on the strike’s first day, and drivers for other port companies are expected to do the same the following day.Other protests are planned in Los Angeles and Long Beach throughout the week.It is unclear if the strike will impact international cargo movements but we will monitor the situation and advise if there are any delays to be expected.
